How I lost 10 lbs in a month — without a gym membership.

This post is for educational and entertainment purposes only.

Hawaii was a month away so I needed to act fast. Unfortunately, my trip to the islands had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. All I have to say is that it’s been a crazy 2020 thus far. Especially with the loss of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven others who passed away in that helicopter crash. I have to admit, I’m still having a tough time accepting it, plus I haven’t completely gotten over the death of Nipsey Hussle either.

Moving forward, I wanted to share my workout routine with you. From the beginning to the end. I’m not fitness instructor nor am I a personal trainer. I don’t even work at a gym! 🤣 But if you plan on following my routine, awesome! Remember to move slowly first then gradually increase your sets.

Please consult your physician before beginning this or any exercise program! As with any exercise program, if at any point during your workout you begin to feel faint or dizzy, or have physical discomfort, you should stop immediately.

  1. 20 minutes of stretching — arms, legs, your ass, your back ( I will show you how I stretch my back in another post)
  2. 15 minutes of jump rope (best cardio ever) or you can walk on a treadmill for an hour or…
  3. Do Burpees – 15 to 20 of them to get your heart going. Or…
  4. Shadow box! But if you have a heavy bag, that’s awesome! Put on your hand wraps, your gloves and be ready to punch the bag. Hit the bag with straight jabs for 3 minutes without stopping.
  5. 15 lb kettlebell workout. If you don’t own a kettlebell you can use a 15 lb dumbbell. If you would like to order a kettlebell, you can find one Amazon here: https://amzn.to/2wfRVBt
  6. For beginners, here’s a good 15 minute Kettlebell workout video that you can follow on YouTube: https://youtu.be/pTVZs7aYrHw
  7. 3 sets of 25 stomach crunches.
  8. Squats! This is the best exercise to tone your legs and give your butt a lift! I usually do 50 squats per workout. Sometimes more.
  9. Cool down
  10. Meditation

I do highly recommend the HIIT workout. HIIT means, “high-intensity interval training.” This is when you go ALL OUT. It sort of feels like you’re doing cardio level 100. The best thing about this workout is that you don’t need equipment however, expect to sweat a lot. Here is a video that will help you get started: https://youtu.be/1skBf6h2ksI

I bet you’re curious to find out what my daily diet is. Basically, I cut down on eating bad carbs (pasta, rice, bread) and replaced it with good carbs (sweet potatoes, quinoa, kidney beans – YUCK) I increased my spinach and kale intake, about 2-3 cups of greens per day. I stopped drinking soda. Whenever I wanted to get my soda fix, I would replace a Coke with sparkling water. I cut off candy! I cut off desserts. I cut off everything that could give me a cavity. I drink LOTS of water.

Working out isn’t just about losing weight or toning your arms. Working out gives you a chance learn your body and be in tune of yourself. To hit your weight loss goal, it takes discipline, determination, persistence, and consistency. Don’t get me wrong, I love the gym. The gym is my safe haven. But I also love saving money too.

I was glad to hit that goal this month!

This coupon is for a time for me and you.

Gabriel Fernandez.

His name and his face will forever be in our memory. Gabriel was only 8 years old when his mother, Pearl Fernandez and her boyfriend, Isauro Aguirre, tortured then murdered him.

In the Netflix Docuseries, “The Trials OG Gabriel Fernandez”, the series documents how the system consistently allowed his case to fall through the cracks when he needed help. Was it difficult to watch? It was very difficult. So difficult, it had a gangsta in tears. Two minutes into the first episode, I had to close out the screen to gather my thoughts. The next day, I mentally prepared myself and decided to watch the series from beginning to end.

In a span of 8 months, aside from regular beatings, Gabriel was shot in the face with a BB gun, he was forced to eat cat litter, while everyone slept in beds, he was locked up in a cupboard, Gabriel was pepper sprayed in the bathroom, and burned by cigarettes. On top of that, his older brother and sister witnessed the abuse. Isauro Aguirre lost his shit and beat Gabriel which lead to his death. During an interview between an investigator and Gabriel’s sister, she mentioned that she tried to feed her brother by slipping in a piece of banana through the cupboard. What saddened me was the fact that his teacher reported the abuse to the Department of Children and Family Services several times, a security guard from The Department of Social Services also reported the abuse — but no action was taken. Law enforcement was also called to the scene and nothing was done.

Days before Gabriel was murdered, he made a Mother’s Day card telling her how beautiful she was and how much he loved her. On a Mother’s Day coupon, Gabriel wrote: “This coupon is for a time for me and you”

He just wanted to be loved by his mother.

Pearl Fernandez avoided the death penalty by taking a plea deal and was sentenced to life in prison. Her boyfriend, Isauro was convicted of murder in the first degree and sentenced to death. Two social workers, Patricia Clement, Stefanie Rodriguez and their supervisors, Kevin Bom and Gregory Merritt were charged with a felony count of abuse and falsifying records. Unfortunately, their case never made it to trial and later dismissed. Do I feel that all parties are to blame for Gabriel’s murder, YES!

I cried as I watched episode after episode. I could not grasp the reality of the abuse they inflicted on Gabriel and what bothers me the most is how the system failed to investigate his case further. I continue to ask myself why he wasn’t removed from the home? In the county I live in, DCFS will say it’s neglect if your children of the opposite sex share a bedroom. In the county I live in, if you’re reported by CFS, a social worker will interview you and all of your kids even if one child is being referred. I just can’t understand how the system failed him — in my opinion, they didn’t take his case seriously.

First Gabriel Fernandez and then there’s Anthony Avalos, which is yet another child that Los Angeles County CFS failed to protect. Then came, Noah Cuatro, a 4 year old Palmdale boy, who was also abused and killed by his parents.

I just can’t.

I Miss Nothing About You

You said I couldn’t wear tight jeans because it showed off my ass
You said I couldn’t wear short skirts and reveal skin because it lacked class
You said that all my friends were hoes, well, there goes another night out with my ladies
So I stayed home and watched YouTube all night, meanwhile, “Have you seen Crystal lately?”
Little did I know that you were just controlling, but I was too naïve to see
At the time I was scared to be alone, so I put you first instead of me
All I wanted was for you to be happy, while my smile was disappearing
They said that love was blind, but I also lost my hearing
They told me to leave you, but my ears wouldn’t listen
My heart even told me to leave you too, but my brain was in the kitchen
When you put your hands on me, I didn’t know what to do, so I
stayed silent and kept myself at the bottom of the queue
Now here I am five years later and I miss nothing about you
I wish I could take back what I lost, but I’ll just take the L
Lost a lot of people in the process too, oh well
Glad I left and if ever you find yourself alone, remind yourself
that you had it
I would never put myself in that position to lose myself again
Even if it was my last decision to make on this planet
I miss nothing about you.
